Schools Minster Jim Knight MP visited Leicester on Monday 5 March to ask local schools to become supporters of the Silver Star Appeal, a charity launched by The Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP.
Jim Knight launched the initiative at St Paul’s Catholic School. Participating schools will host and take part in fundraising activities from March until June this year. The school that raises the most amount of money will win a computer and printer.
Jim Knight MP also unveiled a brand new Performing Arts Centre at St Paul’s school. This centre includes a drama studio, recording studio and music room. The Minister was particularly excited by the drum kit which he couldn’t resist trying out.
Both St Paul’s Catholic School and Judgemeadow Community College have recently achieved excellent exam results.
Keith Vaz said:
“I am very pleased that St Paul’s has agreed to become a Silver Star school. The Silver Star Appeal will raise funds for a Mobile Diabetes Assessment Unit in order to help tackle the problem of undiagnosed Diabetes. I think that this is a great opportunity for schools to raise the issue of healthy eating as obesity is one of the major contributors of Diabetes.”
“I am especially pleased that the Minister for Schools, Jim Knight MP was able to join us for this launch as healthy eating in schools is rightly becoming a major part of the national curriculum.”
