The first Mango Festival held in Leicester, marking the start of the Mango season, has been hailed as a great success. The Festival took place at Cossington Street Recreation Ground, Leicester on Bank Holiday Monday 6 May 2013.
The four elephants, the centre piece of the festival, were unveiled by Keith Vaz and celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor which drew in a huge crowd. Hundreds of people who had gathered were all very excited to see the elephants, symbols of strength, wisdom, luck and prosperity.
There was a variety of activities including cooking with celebrity Sanjeev Kapoor, dancing with Bollywood choreographer Shiamak Davar. There was also distribution of free mangoes which had come all the way from Mumbai especially for the Festival.
“The Festival was a spectacular event and the elephants, the centre piece were a huge draw. Everyone had a great time and the elephants certainly brought the sunny weather with them. It was one of the hottest days of the year so far.”
This would not have been possible without the involvement of all the stakeholders who have worked so hard. Leicester is now truly a City of Culture.”
