On Saturday Leicester East Councillor Mo Chohan died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Coun Chohan was first elected to Leicester City Council in 1999. Keith led the tributes to Mo saying:
‘’I am devastated and saddened by this news. It’s a terrible shock.
Mo Chohan was the voice of Belgrave. An icon of the local community.
It is for those reasons that he was genuinely adored by local people.
Thousands of local people had their lives transformed by the selfless work that he did for them. He was a 24/7 elected representative before it was fashionable to be so.
The local facilities in Belgrave from the Library to the Neighbourhood Centre would not be open today but for his campaigning zeal.
His weekly surgeries on the Belgrave Road were the stuff of legend with people queuing around the building to see him.
I saw him on Friday night when we rededicated the building we both used. We will never see his like again.’’
All those who wish to pay their respects to Mo Chohan can join in the procession that will be held in his honour. This will begin at 75 Cooper Steet, in Leicester (LE4 5BN) and will continue around Belgrave Road. After the parade the cremation will take place at 12:00pm at Gilroses Crematorium, Groby Road Leicester LE3 9QG.
