The Rt Hon Chris Grayling, Secretary of State for Transport, has announced an increased funding for High-Speed Rail 2 (HS2). This additional funding, £300 million, will go towards ensuring HS2 can link up with both the Norther Powerhouse and Midlands Rail projects.

Phase 2 of the HS2 will create new junctions in the Midlands and in the North. This will benefit Leicester and the East Midlands by adding to our transport network and increasing accessibility all round.

Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, MP for Leicester East has welcomed this additional funding and has said ‘I am pleased that the Chancellor and the Secretary have made these funds available and I am looking forward to seeing this in reality’.
