Over 50 residents of Alderton Close have voiced their concerns about anti-social behaviour and parking on the road. They met this morning at a residents’ meeting on the Close to discuss this and other issues with Keith Vaz, Councillor Bhatti and Councillor Clair as well as representatives from the Police and the Council.
One of the biggest issues residents face is the high level of illegal parking on their small road because of its proximity to the park entrance. They are calling for double yellow lines so that the police can prosecute those who park illegally. The council recently resurfaced the park car park, which cost a large sum of money, but have not put forward any measures for controlling parking on the congested close.
Residents fear the parking problem will only worsen if the Council approves plans for a temple on the site of a former car show room on adjacent Melton Road. They are asking for the Council to defer the planning application, and to hold a review of the planning process.
The park gates also attract anti-social behaviour, with youths congregating at the gates. Residents are calling for the entrance to the park to be moved from their cul-de-sac.
Keith Vaz said:
“Local residents are rightly concerned about the high level of anti-social behaviour and the illegal parking on their quiet cul-de-sac.
I also cannot understand why the council has spent £140,000 on resurfacing a car park and cannot find £3000 for double yellow lines. I hope that action is taken immediately to resolve this matter.”
