The grand unveiling of three permanent memorials to local families in Manor Farm who have contributed to the community took place today, as streets were named after them in the new affordable housing development.

KEith explained why local residents chose Cynthia Bunten, the Dilks family and Councillor Guy Collis had been chosen by the community to be honoured in this way and cut the ribbon to officially unveil the new street names.

Bunten Green will be named for Cynthia Bunten, a retired Youth and Community worker who has worked and campaigned for many years within the community to improve the village of Humberstone and the lives of other residents. Cynthia has also been involved in multi-faith organisations, events and activities for many years within the City.

Dilks Road will provide a lasting tribute to the Dilks family who have leased Meadowland at Manor Farm for over 40 years as grazing land for cattle and horses.

Collis Crescent will commemorate Councillor Guy Collis who first represented Humberstone Ward in 1955 and became Lord Mayor of Leicester in 1988.

Keith Vaz said:

“I am delighted that local residents have chosen to honour community heroes in this way.
The street names will provide a fitting tribute to people who have given so much of their lives for the good of others. ”
